Manifesta
We're still working on an up-to-date site. In the mean time, we recommend that you look on our myspace pages (1,2) or facebook group page. Thanks for your patience.
Manifesta aims to create supportive and inclusive spaces for the self-expression of people of all genders and sexualities. To challenge sexist, homophobic, and transphobic attitudes through the organisation and promotion of cultural, social, artistic and political activities. To promote a DIY ethic to encourage the participation of a diverse range of groups and individuals working towards these aims.
Why are you called Manifesta?
The name "Manifesta" was taken from the third wave feminist book "Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future" written by Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards (2000). We used the term manifesta on our early riot grrrl chapter posters and flyers in 2003. It's a smart book click here for more details
I'd also recommend: Joanna Russ (1998) What Are We Fighting For: Sex, race, class, and the future of feminism. Or Leslie Heywood & Jennifer Drake (1997) Third Wave Agenda: Being feminist, doing feminism. Or these links the f-word webzine feministing blogspot zines are always an excellent place to find out about this stuff as well, check out the friends and links for some amazing distros.
